Best Gifts for Mom - Holiday 2017

Best Gifts for Mom - Holiday 2017

Is it just me, or is everyone else also in denial that it’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year? It’s not as though feel like the Summer of 2017 was just yesterday, but it still feels super fresh in my memory. With school starting, then Halloween and Thanksgiving, now all of the sudden we’re faced with lights and trees. And christmas cards. And gifts (for everyone else).

I try to keep an ongoing list going throughout the year of things that the kids talk about, and things that Seth wants or needs because I’m a TERRIBLE gift giver. Really. I love receiving gifts, but find that giving a thoughtful present is unnecessarily challenging. I’m also terrible at answering the question, “What holiday gifts do you want this year?”. So, I’m here to do us all a favor, friend. I’ve made a list of my favorite things for Christmas.

The best gifts for mom

These are all great gift ideas for moms - I’ve got everything from big ticket items down to stocking stuffers. There’s everything from practical to fun. I guarantee that there will be something on this list that you’ll want (and if you don’t find something, it’s because you already have it). All you have to do is copy and paste this URL into an email and send it to whomever you wish.

Oh, and if you’re just reading this blog because someone e-mailed it to you, hey there!! I’m Rhi and I’m going to help you to win the “best gift giver award” this year by providing you with a variety of thoughtful, personalized and inexpensive (or expensive if you so desire) gifts for the awesome people in your life.

Let’s go.

Anything Magnolia

Now, let me start off by saying that my husband and I are church planters, so we don’t have a whole lotta cash just laying around at the Hoffman abode (shocking, I know). However if we did, I would literally want to throw it all at Magnolia. I want all the things. Seriously, Jo - just take my money. Any woman who has functioning eyeballs and a pulse knows that the Magnolia aesthetic and products are on point. Whether you choose to gift a magazine subscription, a baseball hat, pillows or a rug (read: all of the above), you’re going to make one lucky lady happier than Chip Carter Gaines on Demo Day. You literally can’t go wrong with Magnolia. You just can’t. Click here to be sucked down into a rabbit trail of awesomeness at Magnolia Market.

Tile Tag & App

We have certain “homes” for specific items here at our place. Some obvious, some not so obvious. Keys go in the tray at the top of our stairs. Shoes, in the back hallway. Coats go in the closet (or more often, on our kitchen chairs). We also have a lot of clutter, so things can literally end up anywhere in the entire house; buried underneath a stack of mail or school papers. Namely my phone, but also things like my wallet or the TV remote. This is where the tile comes in handy. Instead of wasting your time looking for the things that you need, you can find them easily with the tile app and then get on with your day. Seems like an obvious, practical yet thoughtful gift, right? To get your hands on one (or a few) click here.

Powersheets - A self-care tool

Goals. I think they’re great, but I never thought they were for me. Goals were for business owners, athletes, salespeople and anyone trying to lose weight. I didn’t fall into any of those categories, so I didn’t need them. Right? WRONG. The thing about goals is that if you don’t have any, you can’t fail. GREAT. But here’s the catch - if you don’t set them up, you don’t win either. This is where PowerSheets comes in. They are thorough and intentional about pulling the things that you love out from within you and putting them on paper so that you can see how they might be incorporated into your day to day life. And who here is bad at following through? Definitely me, and that’s one of the beautiful things about PowerSheets - if you fall off the wagon, or if you decide that you want to change your goals, you’re given the freedom to pick back up where you left off or change things and start from scratch completely. You’re given the opportunities within this spiral bound book to do whatever the heck you want. There are no boundaries or rules; only encouragement and permission to thrive. You can buy them for $55 here (possibly the best $55 I spent last year) and you can find other accessories and 6 month planners here.

MAZi Towel

This gift falls into the category of beautiful and functional with the bonus of being ethical too. I stumbled upon MAZi Trading Co on Instagram recently and immediately knew that I needed one of these turkish cotton towels in my life. They are GORGEOUS, and the more I read about MAZi, the more I fell in love with this company. Not only does MAZi source handmade, eco-sustainable products (which are made with premium Turkish cotton, and hand-loomed by lifetime artisans living in Turkey), but they also plant a tree for every product sold. In all honesty, I think that receiving any of these products is a win, but I’m loving my Northwesterner more and more every day. Is it a scarf? Towel? Wrap? It’s all of these things, and gets an A+ in my book for it’s versatility. And at $42, it’s a steal but they do offer other products at both higher and lower price points too (I think the Summer Breeze Blanket is next on my list). No matter what you choose, you’ll be happy with MAZi. Click here to purchase something (and get one for yourself while you're at it).

O Ring

Do you remember the movie “Fools Rush In” with Matthew Perry and Salma Hayek from the late 90’s? They’re quite the unlikely couple, but in the movie, he says to her, “you’re everything I never knew I always wanted” - a line that I’m likely to use when talking about my surprise (read: unexpected) kids, but it totally applies to the O-venture big O key ring. Seriously, you won’t get it until you try it. And then once you try it, there’s no going back. Just throw this bad boy on your wrist and experience new levels of freedom. No more fishing in your bag like Mary Poppins for your keys - they’re now right where you need them to be. They’re easily accessible but also secure. I have the $28 gold confetti silicone because I thought it was tres chic and versatile (plus I never know what kind of puddle I’m going to accidentally drop my keys in here in Brooklyn, and silicone sounded like the most rinseable option), but there are a plethora of other colors in the silicone and also a leather option.  You can buy them here.

A Warm Quilt

I have very few treasured items in my household that are actually mine. Having four young boys means that every single item in our life is prone to being manhandled, ripped, having something spilled on it or being damaged in some way, shape or form. We have brown couches and plastic plates for a reason; nothing is safe. However, my Anthropologie quilt is the exception. After back to back years of being pregnant and nursing babies throughout the night I asked for this beautiful quilt to celebrate that I was no longer going to regularly be getting breastmilk, poop and pee in my sleeping area. No more sleeping on ⅔ of the bed because I was too tired to change wet sheets in the middle of the night. No more 50 minute sleep stretches. No more fear of waking up a sleeping baby in my bed. We have a firm no co-sleeping rule in our household now because of the number of years that we DID co-sleep. If our kids are sick or have a bad dream, they are absolutely welcome to sleep in our room in a pack and play or our small camping bed, but you better believe that my lovely quilt ain’t going to be compromised by urine or vomit. This quilt is just too pretty for that. Take your pick from a variety of gorgeously lush quilts here. They're also currently 20% off, so RUN.

Loopy case

As women, we tend to have our hands full, am I right? Well in addition to the O key ring, I have something else that will help you to get one step closer hands-free status: the Loopy case. As far as phone cases go, I have been a dedicated Otterbox user for years. I have dropped my phone more times than I care to mention, yet with the Otterbox my phones have never been damaged. Never. Not even slightly. The cases are meant to take a beating and hold up remarkably well. However I am ready to make the switch. I have four kids that are constantly asking me to fetch things or hold things for them. This isn’t the easiest when my hands are ALREADY full (usually with keys, phone, diaper bag, purse, pushing a stroller, holding chubby hands). However the loopy case is a phone case that literally has a little rubber loop threaded through the back of the phone so that instead of having to carry your phone, you can just hook your finger through the loop and be on your way. Another benefit to having the loopy case is that your pinkie will no longer be responsible for holding the weight of your phone anymore as you scroll through instagram or check your email. As someone who has a large and in charge phone, this is a lifesaver. You can buy a loopy case here.

Amazing New Sheets - Made in Brooklyn

Something that I’ve realized recently is that I spend roughly 30% of my life in my bed. First of all, I wish it were more. Secondly, if I’m going to be spending a third of my life there, I may as well be sleeping on some good sheets. The company that immediately comes to mind is Brooklinen. Not only do they have a good reputation (they have some crazyamazing reviews), but they come at a fairly reasonable price. Brooklinen’s Classic Core Sheet Sets include a flat sheet, fitted sheet, and 2 pillowcases and are $129. You can buy them here. Pick out a set for someone and give the gift of better sleep. Is there a better gift than that?

So there you have it. You’re welcome. I’ll take any and all thanks in the form of flowers and chocolates. Or any of the things listed above would be fine too.
